Anat Ronan awarded First artist residency at Hope Farms

 Anat Ronan loves everything about Hope Farms. She comes from an agricultural background and is very drawn to fresh food and healthy eating. She specializes in painting nature in her practice and is excited to bring her passion to Hope Farms. A Houston-based self-taught artist whose art is highly collected, her work is found throughout Greater Houston, including public spaces like interstate highways, bridges, buildings, churches, and schools, and it is displayed in museums, installations, and collections nationwide and all the way to India, China, and Australia.

Anat will conduct monthly classes at Hope Farms en plein air during our First Saturday Markets from November to April. Community members are not just invited but encouraged to participate in these free classes, which are open to all. Anat will teach her students how to use different media to approach drawing from life. Together, they will walk the farm, drawing/painting in situ on found objects inspired by what they observe.  Her First Saturday still-life drawing sessions will result in a monthly student show that will remain on display.

At the same time, Anat will work with her students on a large-scale piece for her Capstone project, depicting natural elements found on the Farm. Inspired by their experiences growing, preparing, serving, and sharing food, students will paint graffiti-style to cover five oversized panels completely. The panels will be installed to cover the entire south side of a twenty-foot shipping container on the farm.

Ultimately, Anat will paint an extra-large hyper-realistic mural over the graffiti panels inspired by our work.  It will be a permanent fixture on the Hope Farms campus.
