Mission

Over 23 million American children today are obese or already on the path to becoming obese adults with life-threatening chronic diseases. Obesity has many causes, but research identifies the major culprit as the food we eat and the way we eat it. The loss of connection with food sources, reluctance to eat fresh fruits and vegetables and reliance on processed fare are some of the key contributors that we work to eliminate.

Recipe for Success Foundation was founded in 2005 to combat childhood obesity by changing the way children understand, appreciate and eat their food and to educate and mobilize the community to provide them with healthier diets. We are transforming lives in Houston and beyond by making healthy food fun, tasty, affordable, easy and accessible.

A critical component in achieving Recipe for Success Foundation’s mission to mobilize the community to provide healthier diets for children, Hope Farms grows fresh, affordable produce in the midst of a Houston “food desert” while training and providing small-business incubation, co-op services and workforce readiness for U.S. Veterans and others, preparing them to be urban agri-preneurs. The seven-acre farm is also a healthy gathering place, offering regular cooking and gardening classes for children and adults, weekly produce deliveries to subscribers, weekly onsite markets, pop-up produce markets in the community and public events that celebrate local food and the power of shared meals to build community.

Our urban farm, in the shadow of downtown Houston, is a place for all Houstonians and visitors to our city to learn about and celebrate fresh, locally-grown food.
